The first priority is to make sure they don't suffer dehydration or an electrolyte imbalance. The big names you should look for are Pedialyte or Gatorade. Provide as much as the child wants and then try to pinpoint exactly what is causing the diarrhea. Take them to a medical professional as soon as possible.

There is a product called FlorastorKids. It is a natural probiotic. It comes in little packets that you open and mix the contents in food or drink. Florastor replaces the good bacteria in their system and should help to stop diarrhea. You don't need a prescription but will have to ask the pharmacist because it is behind the counter.

Although apple juice and crackers have always been used during diarrhea episodes, a regular healthy diet is the best treatment. Diarrhea is not the sickness; diarrhea is the way the digestive system is cleaning up itself and throwing out whatever is bothering it. Let the body do its work. Your body will compensate the effort.

When my son has diarrhea I find the BRAT (bananas, rice, applesauce and toast)diet to be the best. You want to avoid sugary drinks (they make diarrhea worse), give plenty of fluids like pedialyte and water.Offer your child starch foods like mashed potatoes and crackers. These foods will help to bulk up the stool and ease the diarrhea.

I have found the "B.R.A.T." diet to work best, with babies and adults alike. It stand for Bananas, Rice (or Rice Water), Applesauce, and Toast. These foods tend to help tighten up stool and put an end to diarrhea. If it persists for longer than a few days, contact your doctor.
