Some family friendly dog breeds can include all color's of labs, golden retrievers, border collie's, and huskies. There are a number of smaller dogs as well such as Pomeranian, and poodles. Jack Russel Terriers can be a good family dog as well, they are generally small but have a lot of energy.

Look to the Retriever breeds for the most family friendly dogs. The Labrador Retriever and Golden Retriever are not only among the most popular dog breeds but they are also two of the most family friendly breeds out there due to their temperament and interaction with children. They do however require daily exercise so make sure you have the time.

Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Labador Retriever, Boxer....there are lots! I would first think about what type of activity level you want and then go and visit with some breeders and see!

It seems like the larger breeds(except pitbulls) make the best dog for children, Labs have the good name for being child-friendly as well as hounds and retrievers and terriers.A smaller dog around kids sometimes doesn't work because these dogs tend to be nervous. Sometimes the best dogs are a mixed breed as far as being healthy .

Definitely skip a pit bull- it's their nature not to be nice, even if they are 'raised' that way. Terriers and huskies make GREAT family dogs- they're so loving and playful.

Labradors are very friendly and also kid friendly. St. Bernard's are friendly if you can handle a dog that size. A smaller breed of friendly dog would be the Dachshound. My preference is a larger breed. And the labrador would be the dog. Personally I've always gone with mutts. A mixed breed is also a friendly type of dog.
