Are German shepherd Collie mix dogs a good kind of dog?

My German Shepherd/Collie cross was the gentlest, most intelligent dog I've ever had. She was protective without being aggressive, tolerant of absolutely anything, and gorgeous. Her size made her intimidating to some people but once people got past that she was everyone's pal.

German Shepherds do well with children, but collies are herding animals that may nip at children in an attempt to "herd" them. The two breeds may balance out!

I grew up with a German Shepard/collie mix. It was like having a bodyguard. He was the smartest most loyal dog I've ever had. Great friend and protection for a child.

We have had our German Shepherd/Collie mix for well over five years and he has been a great dog. Very protective and friendly. He is like another member of the family. We love him and he is a very beautiful dog also.

German Shepherd Collie mix dogs make excellent pets. Both breeds exhibit herding and protective instincts and are very good pets for protecting children. They can be somewhat shy around strangers, but will sound an alarm if somebody comes on your property that shouldn't. An excellent pet and guard dog for a family with children.

Yes the collie in it will make it really good with kids. And the shepard will make it a good guard dog for the kids.

I love my German Shepherd Collie. I have had him for almost a year. He is the perfect dog. He is such a mamas boy. He is loyal and loving. I would reccomend GS/C to anyone!

We have a 6 month old Collie/shepard mix, he was the easiest of my 3 dogs to train he is also very full of energy and very loyal does well with my kids the neighbor kids that come in the yard! We love him!!!

Our German Shepherd/Collie Mix will be 10 this March! He is such a mama's boy though! He does bark ALOT but he's very alert with strangers but goes crazy with happiness if we know them lol(:

I have adopted a GD x Collie rescue dog. I've had her for one month. She is the most loyal dog I've ever had. Very smart and obedient. However she is not good with small children.

I have a 7 month old mix of this, we got him at 3 mos old. So far he is the smartest of all 3 of my dogs, trained easily, is very loving and affectionate, and has the best temperment I have ever seen. he adores our son as well

In short, yes. Lassie was a German Shepard/Collie mix, so that should be a testament to this dog's place as a friendly, child-loving breed. Be aware, however, that these puppies need training from an early age for proper behaviors to form.

A German shepherd Collie mix should do well with children. If you get the dog as a pup and let him grow up with your children, than he should be a great companion for them. The only thing to be cautious of is having other children over, this mix will be large enough to do damage if he feels protective.

These dogs can be great animals. Some "mix" type dogs are beneficial to different types of households. The german shepherd breed is generally a very intelligent breed and is easily trained. The collie breed is generally very hearty and full of energy. The mix of these two breeds would likely be beneficial to an active family.

I grew up with a dog of this mix from the time I was 8 yrs. old. At times she had a temper, but for the most part she was well mannered, easily trained, and an excellent guard dog.

Yes, from what i have heard that kind of dog is a good one. It will learn faster and will be great with the kids. Though you may have some problems in the beginning i know these dogs are fast learners and mostly submissive.

All dogs weather pure bread or a cross breed are good dogs. What this come down to is the owner or if something happen to the dog in the past

we had this mix for 12 years, the best dog ever, loyal, protective,always loved you no matter what. great guard dog, you always felt safe and loved. always take great care of her and she will be the love of your life forever.
