What advice do you have to a new mom that has no help or support from her family?

I am struggling with my newborn and have no one to turn to for support.

Call the hospital and ask for the number to their nursing phone line and new parent outreach program. They are sure to have one or the other and they will be glad to help you. They know ALL the resources, and it's their job to share.

The hospital where you gave birth is a good place to start. They may have support groups or at least a list of community resources/groups that can help.

Go to your local welfare office. They can help you get food stamps and some help. You can also try the local health departments for formula.

Look for a religious group to join for support. Look for mothers' groups. Contact relatives or old friends and reconnect. Talk to the father's family - there may be paternal relatives of the child to help even if he will not.

If you don't have friends who can help, check your local hospital or social services for a new mothers' support group. They will have information and resources for you.
