I would not suggest doing a chemical bath at home because there are many dangerous chemicals involved. They make altrenatives you can use at home. You mix the chemical with water, soak you instruemnt for about 30 minutes, and then scrub your instrument with brushes. After cleaning, you just rinse your insturment well with water. It is much safer.

Trumpets get cruddy over the years, and a chemical bath can help restore it to that new sound and function. Definitely get a professional to do it every 3-4 years.

Yes you should , because after years of using it , contaminants build up inside of the trumpet. This will result in degrading copper/zinc alloys and eventually it will damage your trumpet.

Not a good idea. You need an industrial "vapor bath" to get the laquer off, before the chemical bath can clean up the metal. DIY will give a patchy result.

Chemical baths will treat and clean trumpets but first you need to find out what metal your trumpet is made of. There are different mixtures for different metals. Be careful!
