If it is a female cat, she may have a bladder infection of some sort. If it is a male, he may be marking his territory, especially if there has been another pet introduced into the house lately. Either sex may be doing it because something is wrong with their litter box.

If it has not been spayed or neutered, do that first. Then I would suggest steam cleaning the carpet, so that it gets the smell out. This cat is marking their territory again and again. If they can't smell where they marked before, & you always keep their liter box in the same place, then they will stop.

Very unusual behavior. Is potty clean? If cat has been fastidious before, a simple complete change of potty - washed and new gravel - will suffice. If cat has a bladder/kidney problem there will be little fluid passed and vocalization while looking and squatting. Immediately take to a Vet.

Cats generally urinate around the house when their home environment changes. This may be when a new people joins the household, a baby is born or another animal is purchased. Generally, the cat will stop 'spraying' with time, but you can get medication that discourages cats from spraying.
