Keeping your lawn mowed and vegetation at a minimum is a must. There are organic products available that are safe to use on plants and lawns. Taller plants allow more air flow and keep midge activity lower, as they fly around more on still days. They like watery areas and are most active early morning and evenings.

Well the remedy is to basically spray ammonium all over the yard. Also, you want to make sure that all lights are turned off. If you have some garden lights make sure you are switching them off. Mosquitos are attracted the areas of dim light and bright lights so make sure to adjust this.

The best thing I have ever come across for dealing with any type of bugs is Avon's Skin so Soft with there bug repellent. It keeps bugs from biting.
