You could have bedbugs. You should look up whether your area is prone to having bedbugs and find out what options you have to getting an exterminator in or having your building cover the cost. It is a common problem in some cities such as parts of New York City.

Other than your cat or spouse, you could be getting bitten by bedbugs. There's a big epidemic in the U.S. If you suspect bedbugs, call an exterminator.

If you are experiencing some sort of bite that originate when you lie on your mattress it is probably bedbugs.
