This dog needs to go to the vet. There are a number of reasons why there is the cough and you must diagnose the underlying cause of the cough.

Your dog most likely has kennel cough. This is treated with an antibiotic that a vet can prescribe. Kennel cough is fairly common and dogs can easily contract it from being near another infected dog.

You can actually try to use over the counter cough medicine typically used for people. Regulate dosage by weight, with a half teaspoon for every 10 pounds, with 2 teaspoons as a maximum dose. Make sure the medicine does not have acetaminophen, which is dangerous to dogs (and people over the long term for that matter).

I do not think that there is a pill for your dog to take for coughing. I reccomend that you take your dog to the local vets office and have the dog checked out. It could be something worse than a cold.

Almost all reliable canine medications must be gotten from your veterinarian. Even if the medication is "over the counter" vets will carry the largest selection of meds or know where you can find them. Always check with your vet before self-medicating a sick dog.

Well if you want to get your dog a pill you won't be able to get it off the counter or anything. So you have to go to your vet.

First, don't give you dog human cough medications. If your veterinarian determines that the dog is sick, then they will prescribe the proper medications. There is a pill that dogs take for kennel cough, which is a type of illness that dogs get that causes a cough.

It depends on why he is coughing. If he has a bacterial or viral respiratory infection, then yes, your vet can prescribe medication. On the other hand, if it is caused by a collapsed trachea or other physical deformity, then medication most likely won't help. Check with your vet.

A sign of cough in dogs is usually what Vets' call Kennel cough. A dog version of a "cold". In some cases it is very mild and some serious. It is contagious to other dogs. Seek medical advice from your vet he/she may prescribe medication. Wish you the best.

I don't know about a pill but I do know if the cough is not productive you can use a cough suppressant, such as cough syrup and some people use honey also. If bacterial give the bordetelia vaccine, that is drops that go in nose. You may try you nearest coop for the bordetelia.

From personal experience the best cough pill is Temaril-P Tablets. My dog had a cough for a month, took this and within one week was well.
