Question by  StevenGrant (25)

Is prune juice a good alternative for babies with constipation?

If not is there something else I can give them to help?

This depends on the age of your baby. If your child is still bottle fed you might try a bit of prune juice mixed with water, but only an ounce or two at a time. If your child is eating cereals or solids, you can try oatmeal (instead of rice).

Prune juice can help with constipation, however I have found that an ounce of prevention or two ounces of apple sauce is worth a prune of cure. Solve the problem, than keep it away with food like apple sauce.

it is a good alternative for babies older than six weeks. You have to fill a bottle with one ounce water and one ounce prune juice and feed it to baby twice a day.

Prune juice that has been diluted with water will help to relieve a baby's constipation. You can also purchase prune pureed baby food if your infant has begun eating solids. Some babies will not drink the juice straight from a bottle but prefer to have it mixed with their milk. Be sure to ask your doctor first though.

They don't recommend it until your baby is 4-6 months and has started on food. My 4yo had problems when he was about 4 months old and they said we could feed him fruits and veggies (babyfood) and that should help, but we could also give hime prune juice or pear juice. I suggest pear juice, the taste is better.

You really shouldn't give your baby any kind of juice unless you have consulted his pediatrician first. Giving them juices and solids too early can hurt them.

Prune juice can be given for constipation. You can also try apple juice. After a warm bath, rub their tummy. While on their backs, move their legs in a cycling movement.
