Manhattan is really an island because of its location in NY. Actually, all of NYC is a big island because the only water source around it is all part of the large ocean. This explains why the shape of Manhattan is like it is today, and every year, a little part of Manhattan sinks down.

Yes and no. Manhattan Island is really an island. The New York borough of Manhattan includes this and several other small islands plus a bit of mainland.
