Yes, any ball joints can be replaced fairly easily with a spring compressor and a tool called a "pickle fork". If your experience is limited with this repair, however, you should have a professional perform the work because you can seriously injure yourself if the control arm breaks free.

Ball joints can be changed by a home mechanic, however it's not the best idea to get into a project like this without a little experience. Replacing the ball joints requires dropping the control arm; which is spring loaded and can hurt you very badly if you don't know how to properly use the tools. Take it to a professional.

you can do it yourself, but several special tools are required. it would not be worth the cost of the tools to do it yourself. some auto parts store rent tools, making it affordable to do yourself.

It is possible to do this yourself however it requires special tools and knowledge. I would not recommend a novice performing a repair like this. It is rather difficult but if you think you can do it buy a repair manual and do your homework first.
