It is a very good idea to crate a puppy. They see it as a place of security. It can also keep your puppy out of trouble and out of harms way.

Yes, it's best to start while they are young. A puppy can remain in a crate an hour for every month of age before he has to relieve himself. Example: A three month old puppy can be crated for 3 hours.

The earlier you start crate training the better for you and your dog. Make sure your dog has enough room to turn around in the crate. Also make sure to have water and a pillow or blanket. Start training short periods of time first. Reward and praise is well-received.

It is fine to start crate training early but like anything it is important to start in moderation. Try starting out with 15-20 minutes at a time and increase the time spent in the crate gradually. Do this for a month increasing the time 5-10 minutes each week.
