When getting your wisdom teeth extracted only you can decide whether you want a shot to numb the area or to be put to sleep. I would recommend that you go to sleep. Those teeth are long and it is easier and less stressful.

Yes. Wisdom teeth require more than just a little shot in the gums to numb the area. Usually when Wisdom teeth are extracted they aren't totally out yet, so the Oral Surgeon tends to have to cut your gums a little bit. Basically it hurts way worse than a normal tooth extraction.

Yes, it is very common to have general anesthesia when having wisdom teeth extractd. It is more costly then just getting local anesthetic though. But ultimately the decision is yours whether you have general or local anesthetic.

General anesthesia is normal because depending on the person, wisdom tooth extraction hurts. General anesthesia involves the dentist giving a shot in the gums near the tooth.
