Numbness should only last for a few hours. It is not common to have numbness for an extended period of time, but it is possible. If you experience numbness for more than one day, contact the dentist who did the extraction. He may need to see you.

If you had anaesthesia, then yes, it would be common to have numbness sin your lip or cheeks. If this is persistent for some length of time, call your dentist/surgeon and ask if this is normal. You should have recieved after care instructions from them. Hopefull their phone number is listed on it.

It is not common after the anesthesia wears off for you still have numbness. Unfortunately a few cases of nerve damage have been reported whether temporary or possibly permanent. This really has alot to do with how long your tooth roots are though and how they were extracted. See doctor!

When your Dentist extracts your teeth he gives you shots of a numbing medication. The dentist usually numbs you up more than you need in order to ensure there is no pain to you. Not only does the area that your tooth is in gets numb, but sometimes your nose, lips and cheeks get numb too. It should go away.

It's possible that you may have had some nerve damage from the surgery. It may take a long time to heal. You should contact the dentist or oral surgeon.
