Check out Adrian Tomine and Craig Thompson, who are younger but work in a similar vein. Also check out Harvey Kurtzman, Will (or Bill) Elder, Gilbert Shelton, Vaughn Bode, Spain Rodriguez, and, of course, Robert Crumb. This latter group is termed the "Underground Comix," precursors of Daniel Clowes.
