Tori Amos was pregnant and lost her baby. This song is about her anger at God for the loss. She was very angry at the "spirit of the baby" and wrote this song to cope.

I can relate to this song because I had a miscarriage, so this song is about losing a baby ad then denying it but deep inside it hurts.

She wrote it after having a miscarriage, having doubts or second thoughts about everything. The lyrics refer to nicotine patches and easy to conclude "spark" refers to smoking, but it really becomes a laundry list of her supposed faults, depression, and the search for her inner spark again.
