It depends on the nature of the misdemeanor as well as the individual's history with the courts. One misdemeanor won't likely be an issue.

It all depends on what kind of misdemeanor crime you have committed. Something simple like repeated traffic tickets or tresspassing will not impact you. However if you have something serious like DUI the judge may see that as being irresponsible and may change your custody arrangement.

Any violation of the law will lead to a poor view of the individual when going for child custody. The best advice is to follow the law to a T when going for custody.

The answer is, "it depends on the misdemeanor. " If it is an offense such as battery or endangering a child by dui, then that could affect custody.

A midemeanor conviction will not have a serious effect on ability to get or keep custody of a child. However, if the misdemeanor involved a child, serious drugs or weapons it can negatively effect custody. The guiding principal in custody is what is in the best interest of the child. Look at the misdemeanor offense with that principle in mind.

The rules for child custody vary from state to state. In general, courts usually look at what will be in the best interest of the child. Any criminal convictions are just one of several factors used in this analysis.
