If you google "special tactics officer," you'll find a couple of websites that detail the training and duties, as well as a youtube video that details the grueling selection process. You can also get details from a recruiter. STOs may be sent into a combat zone, but not "into battle."

STOs are not combat troops. They are specially trained forces that serve as rescue, which could very well be under combat conditions. As such they are highly trained and skilled to manage under those circumstances. Given military technology as regards warfare, the days of going "into battle" are pretty much a thing of the past.

STO go to battle one time a month for not lose activity. But really it depend in if theres a dictador alive, enemies of EEUU.
