A horse's height is measured at the horse's withers. The withers is the highest point on the horses's shoulder, right where it meets the neck. Measurements are expressed in four-inch units called "hands." A horse that is 60 inches tall at the withers would be 15 hands.

A horses highth is measured by hands. One hand is equivalent to four inches. So to begin measure your horse from hoof to withers, or where the neck meets the back. and divide the inches by four. most pleasure horses are about 15 hands.

Horses are measured in "hands". There is four inches in one hand. There are height tapes and measuring sticks, or you can use a tape measure. Place end of tape on the ground by front hoof. Run up to top of withers. This will show you the height.
