Yearly checkups aside, a cat should preferably be taken to a veterinarian whenever displaying signs of illness. However, if money is a major problem, the best solution is to do online research of the symptoms yourself and make that decision. As well, you can ask your local shelter if any reduced-cost health options are available in your area.

Cats are notoriously famous for being able to hide symptoms of illnesses. If you're able to tell your cat is sick it needs to be taken to the vet.
