How do you know why your cat is ill?

I don't want to take my cat to the vet for every little thing.

Discharge from eyes or nose, coughing, loss of appetite, losing weight, hair loss, change in behavior, change in stools, inability to urinate- any of these should have you at least calling the vet for advice. If your cat becomes inactive, tired, hides, yowls or crys when you try to pick her up or pet her, has blood in her stool.

You can probably buy a book on cat health and anatomy, but here are a few things to watch for: If it's skinny yet eating well then check for fleas or parasites, if their eyes are matted try baking soda water, and when they have a hairball use olive oil.
