The motor oil in a hot engine can reach temperatures well over 200 degrees. Anything that temperature can, and will burn you as it is close to the boiling point.

Most engine are designed to get no hotter than around 200 degrees Fahrenheit. So that means that the oil will be about the same temperature. This means you could definitely get burned by some hot oil. This is why it is recommend to where adequate protection when working around hot engine parts and fluids.
