How does child support find out where someone is working?

There are several different ways for them to find out. If the other party knows where he works. They can call his employer. Some states his employee has to report it to the labor department, and child support looks there to find out the income information. If they can not find it out. Then they will impute an amount.

Usually by searching social security records to see where contributions are coming from their pay checks and the employer name and address are listed. They may also search state records for information on any incarceration of an individual required to pay child support. The federal government and states are all co-operating in this effort.
