The first paragraph should introduce your topic, what the essay is about and a brief preview of your arguments. The ensuing paragraphs should each outline one of the arguments you are going to make. The last paragraph is your conclusion and should wrap up your arguments and address any flaws or final thoughts you may have.

The typical format of an essay is to write a quick introduction to your topic and you points, then write detailed paragraphs on each point, lastly write a summary paragraph.

I has a lot of trouble when beginning too: Think of it as an extended review of what you have done, or the subject matter. Write what you did and what you think of what you did. Assess the pitfalls and successes. When possible find other sources and quote them.
