Question by  RosieLeee (55)

How do you write introductions to essays?

I keep getting good marks on the rest of my essay, but not on my introductions.

The purpose of an introduction is to ease the reader into what you are about to say or argue for. You can start out somewhat generally, and end the introduction with a clear statement of your thesis. Tell the reader what you are about to do.

Write your introduction last. The last sentence of the introduction should be your thesis statement. Your introduction can anticipate for the reader what you are going to write about without being a restatement. You can introduce the topic and what people have had to say about the topic (including opinion polls) and then move toward your thesis statement.
