Well a scale can mean a type of weighing machine. You use one of these by placing an object on it, and recording its weight. Scales can also mean the conversion of some unmeasurable thing into a numeric quantity. For example, on a scale of 1 to 10, I like this dress a five. 1-10 being your scale of "liking."

Scales are used to measure the weight of an object ranging from just a few ounces to thousands of pounds. To use a scale you place the object on the scale and then wait until it is done weighing. You then read the weight on the window. It can be electric or manual

Scales are used to weigh or balance items. You will need to find a balanced scale. Put whatever item you are using on either side of the scale until they are balanced. You can also use weights on one side if you need a certain amount of something.

Scales allow you to determine the weight of an object. Place the object on one side, then place pre-determined weight on the other until the scale is balanced (arrow should line up with mark on the top). Count the weights.
