Roof jacks are thick gauge brackets made from steel that will hold the planks in position for evaluating the progress of the shingling. To use roof jacks, hook the roof jacks under one of the nails that are used for shingling and nail the whole structure down completely. Line up the others the same way and fasten the planks on.

In certain circumstances, when other methods aren't available, they are used as part of a fall protection plan. They should be continuously placed along the eave. Roofs having a pitch more than 6 in 12, up to and including 8 in 12, need them above each work interval. They don't have to be continuous, but shouldn't be more than 8ft. apartt.
