Make three turns round the hand. Start making three turns passing outside the middle of the first three turns. Make three more turns passing inside the first set of turns and outside the second set. Tighten up the knot and splice the end to the standing part.

The best way to learn this knot is to find an instructional guide showing each curve. This is a fairly complicated marine knot, so see if you can find the book - Ashley's Book of Knots. Otherwise, a web search yieled several results that give step by step guides on how to tie one.
