It's always best to be honest with him. Let him know that you enjoy his company, but you aren't ready to settle down and don't want to hurt him at all.

You can't do this without hurting his feelings. You can hurt them now or you can hurt them later, but they are going to be hurt. Get it over with.

You have to be honest, even if it hurts him. You don't want to blur the line between friends with benefits and something more serious. Letting the line be blurred and then letting him find out the hard way later that you're not in a serious relationship will only hurt him more in the long run.
