How do you start your computer in fail-safe mode?

As your computer boots up, start tapping the F8 key after the POST (just before when you typically see Windows start to load). A menu will appear and you can select safe mode. If you see the Windows logo you waited too long. Hit the reset button and try again.

This will depend on the operating system. Typically all you do is restart the system and hold the f8 key. It should give an option to start in "safe mode".
