A combination of positive reinforcement and crate training works best. Take them out frequently praising when they eliminate. Crate them when you can't watch them closely inside (overnight).

Puppies should be taken outside to the same spot nearly every two hours to relieve themselves. Praise the puppy when he is successful. Never strike puppies when accidents happen.

Many owners put the puppies outside every few hours and watch and make sure they went to the bathroom. When he goes, praise him and give him a treat. Other owners prefer to train their dogs on newspapers or puppy pads. Mostly these people are the ones who work and can't put the dog out all day.

Place training pads down and show them the area where you wnt them to go do not yell at them this only makes them more nervous. Give praise .

There are many books on the subject, but the general consensus is to take the dog out after meals until it has relieved itself.

There are puppy pads that are sold in retail stores. These pads have a special scent in them in which when a puppy sniffs it, they will recognize that they can pee in that small area.
