As SOON as you turn off the ignition to take the keys OUT of it and put them in a pocket ON your person.

A locksmith suggested keeping one of those magnetic key boxes underneath my car where I could reach it. Then if I ever locked my keys in my car I would have the extra key right there. Remember to put the key back in the magnetic holder after you use it.
