The first step is writing the actual book - many authors use programs such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Publisher in order to type their manuscript. Then you save the e-book as a file, so that you can sell downloads of it to other people.

Write a book about whatever you want. When you have its done, set the book up as a PDF--you can find free software to do this, such as PDF995. Then, upload the PDF file to your website, and create a page to sell it or give it away.

The good news about e-books is that a new dawn of self-publishing is being established. The negative side is that it has less credibility than printed work.

Many eBooks are in Adobe format or filtered HTML format. You can create an eBook from Microsoft word by saving the Microsoft Word document and then printing it to an Adobe PDF file. This PDF file can then be sold via Amazon Kindle or online downloads.
