How do you make your own barbecue sauce?

I would like a recipe for homemade barbecue sauce.

Well there are tons available online however I think the best is to use a basic recipe and experiment. Most sauce are just tomato or vinegar based so add in you own favorite spices and seasoning a little at a time until you have something you like.

Start with a cup of ketchup, and add brown sugar by the tablespoon until you like the sweetness. Add vinegar by the tablespoon for tanginess. Add garlic powder, onion powder, mustard, etc. for taste. Add cayenne pepper for heat. Experiment!

Tomato sauce and paste, reduced down to desired thickness, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Or the Asian version, mix soy sauce and sugar together and reduce.

I use this for BBQ Ribs: In a saucepan, two cups of bottled ketchup, one lemon sliced almost paper thin, half an onion sliced very thin, one quarter cup of maple syrup, two garlic gloves, chopped,bring to boil and simmer low, stirring constantly for a half hour.
