Traditionally, buffalo wing sauce, which is quite spicy, is a simple mixture of hot sauce and butter. Since the hot sauce is red, the addition of the butter changes the color just slightly enough that it gives it an orange color. The variations in the intensity of the orange color can be adjusted by using different kinds of hot sauce.

Traditional buffalo wing sauce is made with butter and a hot sauce, usually Tabasco or Frank's Red Hot. Butter is yellow, hot sauce is red; when combined you get orange. The proportion of butter and hot sauce will govern both the color and the degree of heat. Don't forget the sides of Blue Cheese dressing and celery sticks!
