Getting the cloth for a sarong is easy, but expensive, if you are planning to make it out of silk or cashmere. The problem is in making the intricate patterns.

You can make them from almost any fabric, try and find one that won't unravel. If you're not sure, ask in a fabric or crafts store or check online. Once you have your fabric, measure your waist and add about a foot to it, to tie the knot at your waist. cut it in a half circle shape, and done
