Take 2 strings, and fold them in half. Make a box braid toward the middle of the 2 strings to make 4 strings. Make a top, bottom, left, right. Pull the left string over the right. Cross the right over the bottom, then the bottom over the left string and tuck it under the looped top. Pull tight.

take 4 strands (or 2 folded in half),take the far right, fold it behind 2, bring it between the 1 and 2 strand. do the same with the left. repeat.
