How do you go about pruning a rose of sharon?

I need to clean up my garden roses and do not know how to start.

You have to prune them very gently. I prune mine in the spring only I let it start to leaf out and once it has done that you will be able too see what needs to be trimmed and then just take only the dead part dont take any of the green because then the bush will bleed.

Rose of Sharon bushes should really not be pruned. However, if you must, then prune them back before buds open, in early spring. You can prune the bush back to two feet if you need to.

After the flower has bloomed and died, I cut the bush back to 3 to 4 ft. Next season it will be fuller and have many blooms. I do this every year and have great results. Usually near the fall.
