To reduce the pain associated with shin splints you should ice your shins and tape them during strenuous activity. The best way to get rid of them, let the shin splints heal, is to reduce the amount of strenuous activity you do. Listen to your body; you will know if the activity is too strenuous if you feel severe pain.

The shin splits can't just be gone like that. You can basically just try some kind of physiotherapy and that will help you get rid of the splints. You can stretch your legs out as much as you can. Bikram yoga will also help you get rid of the splints.

Refrain from excercise for a couple of days to a week. Practice feet excercises such as tapping your foot lightly or moving your toes; this will stretch out your shins and calf muscle. If you have severe splints then get a sports massage, this will loosen the muscles and get rid of any scar tissue that might have built up.

The only way to get rid of the pain associated with shin splints is to rest the area for one to two weeks and use ice and pain reliever.

Shin splints are like when you put on too-tight pants -- your blood can't flow easily and the swelling and pain is made worse by compression inside the shin tendons. Sheath release is surgically possible, however RICE and gradual buildup of larger size and strength is usually preferred before seeing an orthopedic specialist for a more permanant fix.

Go to a doctor and get a brace type thing that keeps warmth on your leg and keeps fluid out. It also will help it heel quicker.
