Cut a broom stick down to size and place one piece on either side of the dogs leg. tie it tightly, with nylon rope, but not too tightly. Cutting the leg off a pair of pants, and cover the actual splint.

A splint can be made out of any kind of stick and something to bind it to the affected limb. However, I'd recommend taking him to the vet.

Splints are usually made out of tape and a bandage, in the case you have to immobilize the injury, you can use any piece wood or metal that fits onto the leg ands is not to heavy to immobilize the leg. When the injury is healed, you need to remove the splint, so the dog can use the leg again.

If your dog has been limping obviously there is something that is cause it pain or discomfort. A splint may not help at all. The cause of the limp should be determine by a vet. The animal could have a leg fracture, paw problem, long nails, hip or back problems. So take the animal to the vet.
