Use a jack to prop the vehicle up. Next loosen some of the bolts. Place a drain pan under the engine drain plug. Open the drain by removing the plug. Remove the oil pan. Remove the barring cap. Push the top seal out with a dowel. Slide in the new top piece seal. Clean the surfaces and refasten the sockets.

It's not an easy job. The transmission must be removed, as well as the torque convertor or clutch. Then you have to take the flywheel off. At that point, you can access the seal- but you'll still need a specialized tool and a bit of elbow grease- as well as luck- to remove the seal.

From underside, disconnect driveshaft, linkage, transmission cooler lines, transmission mount.Remove starter. Support transmission with hydralic jack, then remove transmission bolts. Slide transmission back and out. Remove flywheel bolts and flywheel. There may be a dustcover that you have to remove to get to the rear of the engine. Remove pressed in seal, replace, and reverse procedure.

To fix a oil seal then the oil pan will and maybe the crank will have to be removed. Then the new gasket is installed and everything goes back together.

Get a skateboard and a lantern or flashlight, because you're going to be under the Jeep for a while. Once you're in position, unscrew the right quartermount under the oil pan. Plug up drip hole so you can change the seal. Probably a 45 minute job.
