The first thing to do is determine the size and weight the picture you are hanging. Second, determine the type of wall you are hanging it on to see if you need anchors. Third go to the store and read the instructions on the backs of the packages.

When you go to the hardware store to purchase picture hooks, you will generally see on the package the amount of weight the hook will support.
