Consider the weight of the material, the style and fussiness of the curtain and color. Don't rush this decision.

The length and height of your windows can help you decide on your window treatments. Longer windows should have longer window treatments. Where the light comes in at the windows also determines this. If a lot of light is coming in, you can have heavier curtains verses a sheer curtain.

You start with how much light you get in the room or how much you want. If your room is really dark you should choose a sheer curtain or one that isn't big and heavy. If you want it to be more dark you can use light blocking, thick paneled curtains.
