The easiest way to bake a cake is to use cake mix and there is quite a variety available to choose from. You have to have a cake pan for this. If you have never made a cake before maybe you don't have the pan. Any cookbook can tell you how to make a cake from scratch.

Put 4oz sugar and 4oz butter in a bowl, blend together with a fork. Beat an egg in a cup, blend it into the mix. Add 8oz of flour, 5 drops vanilla essence, and mix well. Put it in the cake tin and bake for 40 mins at 355 degF.
