You have to give your joint time to rest for your tendon to heal. Depending on your age this could take anywhere from a few days to a few months.

Depending on the severity of the tear, your doctor may recommend conservative treatment, such as rest and painkillers, or surgical intervention and repair.

Take Ibuprofen for pain and swelling. Rest. Ice the area. Use an ace bandage to compress the area if possible. Limit movement. Elevate the injury above heart level is possible.

A torn tendon requires a lot of time to heal and must first be totally immobilized in order to heal. If the tear is completely through the tendon, then it must be repaired with sutures, by an Orthopedic surgeon, preferably specializing in sports medicine and sports related injuries. Regardless, a doctor must see it first.
