How do I measure a basement window?

A basement window should be measured using a measuring tape. Take a measurement from one end to the other both vertically and horizontally. Try to get the measuremnt as exact as possible.

You have to measure the width and the height of the opening, not the window itself. If you are replacing it get a window that is closest to the opening measurements. Any gaps around the window will be filled in with framing.

Measure the inside dimensions of the opening in inches. If you're having trouble doing so, the case of your tape measure should include it's length to add to the reading.

It is impossible to measure a basement window by remaining in the basement. This would require getting a ladder from the garage, carrying it down the steps, setting it up and ascending safely. Simply go outside your home where you will find the window conveniently at ground level.

If I were to measure a basement window, I would most likely start by going into my toolbox and pulling out my measuring tape and go to the window and measure it.

You will need to measure both dimensions of your window. First, measure the size of the window along both the top and the bottom to make sure it is perfectly square. Next, measure the height on both the left and the right.

First go and buy a measuring tape if you already don't have one in your tool box, and get peace of paper and a pen so u can write the dimensions that you will read from it. Measuring basement window is not any different that measuring any other window in the house. Read what u got and write it.
