The first step in making your own window treatments is to decide on the style of window treatment you want. For example, if you have a small window in the kitchen, you surely don't want a curtain that's overwhelming, rather a small valance type style. Next, decide on the pattern of fabric you would like to use and start sewing!

Iron on hem is awesome, get it at any fabric store. Choose the material and use the iron on to create a pocket to slide over the curtain rod. Then hem the other end using the iron on. 15 minutes and voila

A 12 inch pocket curtain with a fancy trim. Cut your fabric at 15 inches, fold down two inches at top, sewing two seams at 1&2". Finish with nice trim.

Decide if you want them to go across the whole window or inside it. If inside, it'll be three sections. If outside, then one. All you really have to do is sew seams on fabric to fit the curtain rods. It's super easy.
