When an avocado is ripe and ready to eat, the skin will turn a dark greenish-black color. Lightly push the end where it was picked. If it is soft to the touch, it's ripe. This method is better than just squeezing the center of it because it won't bruise it.

An avocado is ripe if there is a little softness when you touch it. It should not be hard as a rock. A Haas avocado will be a dark color.

When pressing on the avacado, it should feel slightly soft but not mushy. The skin will still appear tight to the fruit; shriveled skins mean it is overly ripe.

The Skin will turn a very Dark Green color, almost Black. If you poke or squeeze the Avocado it will feel a little bit squishy or you will make a small dent in it.
