How do I go about installing a water pump on a Ford Ranger?

You're going to need to first remove the old fuel pump, this can be done easily if you've got a complete set of Allen Wrenches, use the 2 quarter size one, that should fit the Ford Ranger's model. Unscrew the old fuel pump and put on the new, using the same brand and type.

Coolant should be drained first. Cooling fan should be removed. Remove the belt. Next remove the alternator and belt tensioner. There will be five bolts in the mount. Do not disconnect the air compressor. All hoses in the water pump should be removed. Clean the engine surface and take the all gasket pieces. Now new gasket and new pump can installed.

Remove the cooling fan shroud and fan. Remove the belt and open the drain located at the bottom of the radiator. Carefully remove all of the bolts holding the old pump to the engine. Clean all contact surfaces before installing gaskets and reinstall in reverse order.

First, you remove all of the components that are in the way of the water pump coming off. Then you pull the old pump and replace it with the new unit. Be sure to use the gasket correctly and also apply gasket sealer to make sure it seals correctly. Last, put back everything you had to remove.

On a Ford Ranger the water pump should be on the front of the engine directly in the center, the best way to remove the old one and install a new one is to first remove the serpentine belt then remove the bolts, remove old pump,clean old gasket material off then put new gasket and pump on.
